West Bengal Tourism has mounted a massive campaign to promote tourism and investment in the State.
As part of this campaign, the tourism board will organise roadshows in seven cities, including Lucknow, which culminated in Delhi on 1 September.
For the first time, the board is promoting the popular Durga Puja Festival, inviting visitors enjoy the festivities next month in Kolkata and other places. For this, Chalo Chalen Bengal was organised, where the agents interacted with the local agents to promote attractive packages.
State Tourism Minister Krishnendu Narayan Choudhury told Travel Daily in Delhi on 31 August that the Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee was keen to promote infrastructure and he emphasised that the State had something to offer everyone, be it culture, heritage, cruises, forts or wildlife.
Principal Secretary of Tourism Vikram Sen in his presentation listed the investment opportunities that West Bengal has to offer in skill development institutes, Sabuj Dweep, Kolkata Giant Wheel, river cruises, forest and tea tourism growth and in eco tourism project in Kumjanagar. Sen said that due regard will be given to the ecology and sustainability issues while awarding the investment contracts.
West Bengal, in a bid to boost tourism, has recently waived off levies on ATF at some airports, which will encourage airlines to fly to Bengal cities and increase arrivals.
