Wiltshire has the potential to offer more types of accommodation and room to grow in its tourism offering, a new report has found.
A new five-year plan has been developed from the report, commissioned by VisitWiltshire, that could see more luxury country house hotels, golf hotels and family hotels spring up, as well as the potential for a hotel at Longleat.
Other development areas cited included the need for more boutique and budget options in cities such as Salisbury and Bradford-on-Avon, as well as serviced apartments in Swindon. Pubs, self-catering accommodation, camping, holiday parks and lodging were also all named as potential growth areas.
Sites and planning policies are now in development with the aim to boost accommodation numbers.
“While the number of bed-spaces outside London has grown by over 20% in the last 10 years, Wiltshire’s bed-stock has remained static,” said David Andrews, chief executive of VisitWiltshire.
“This report is extremely important in helping us identify and prioritise opportunities for growth and, as a result, we are already working on a number of strong leads to secure new types of accommodation product for the county. Tourism continues to grow at 5% per annum and this study will help us make sure we have the right blend of accommodation, in the right locations across Wiltshire,” he added.
