Xiamen Airlines has celebrated the arrival of its 100th aircraft.
The Fujian province-based airline welcomed the new Boeing 737-800 aircraft this week, adding to its all-Boeing fleet. It now operates a fleet of 100 aircraft – 17 B737-700s, 77 B737-800s and six B757-200s. But the Chinese carrier is expected to expand to 136 aircraft by 2015, with the arrival of more B737s and six B787 Dreamliners.
“Having an all-Boeing fleet is a key component in our growth strategy and our ability to achieve 26 consecutive years of profitability,” said Che Shanglun, president & chairman of Xiamen Airlines. “With excellent reliability, operational efficiency and range, the Boeing airplanes enable us to expand our network internationally.”
Launched in 1985, Xiamen Airlines started operating with two B737-200s to three cities. It has since grown into China’s sixth largest carrier serving 218 domestic routes and 26 international routes.
The arrival of its Dreamliners in 2014 will enable Xiamen Airlines to commence long-haul flights to destinations in Europe and North America.
