Xinjiang blizzards claim 13 lives

Snowstorms and freezing temperatures in China’s northwestern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region have claimed at least 13 lives, Xinhua reported the regional government as saying on Monday. The storms brought the region’s heaviest snow in 60 years. Almost 1.4 million people have been affected by the weather, over 161,800 of whom have been evacuated, the report said.
