Eurostar has seen a 28 percent increase in inbound bookings for the Royal Wedding weekend compared to the same date last year. The company expects that thousands of Europeans will travel to London to see the wedding, with VisitLondon estimating that 1.1 million people will come to London on 29 April. “Not since Charles and Diana married in 1981 have we seen such huge interest across the continent in the British royal family,” said Lionel Benbassat, head of sales and marketing in France for Eurostar. “People are truly fascinated by this wedding and they want to experience the excitement of the big day and the party atmosphere first hand.” He said there had been a surge in bookings from republican Germany and France as well as Belgium and the Netherlands. “After three years of financial austerity, it looks like Europe is gearing up for party,” added Benbassat.
