Etihad Airways has enjoyed its busiest summer in its brief four-year history, having carried more than 1.6 million passengers during June, July and August. Its busiest single day came on 1 August, when Etihad catered for 20,721 passengers.
The three-month period saw the airline operate with an average load factor of 83% – 46% increase from the same period a year earlier. Etihad’s Asian services reportedly proved popular, with load factors on its Abu Dhabi-KL route averaging 83%, and 79% on its Bangkok flights. However it was Etihad’s European flights which pushed up the figures. Abu Dhabi-London flights were on average 91% full, with Abu Dhabi-Munich at 88%.
Etihad ‘s year-to-date figures show that the carrier has handled over 4 million passengers in 2008 and is on track to achieve its full-year target of six million.
Etihad’s Chief Executive, James Hogan, said; “The summer has been a great success with more than 1.6 million passengers flying with Etihad Airways.
“As ever, we are grateful for the support we continue to receive from Abu Dhabi Airports Company, Abu Dhabi Airport Services and the Department of Transport, whose close cooperation has paved the way for Etihad to extend its global network,” Hogan added.
