Hyatt Hotels has signed an agreement to launch the first Andaz hotel in Japan.
When it opens in summer 2014, Andaz Tokyo will occupy eight floors – including the top six – of a 52-storey tower currently under construction in the Toranomon district of the Japanese capital. At a height of 247 metres, the wing-shaped tower, will become the second tallest in the city. It will house offices, private residences, shops, and conference rooms, in addition to the 164-room Andaz Tokyo and its facilities, which will include a spa and restaurants.
The key feature of the hotel will be its open-air bar and event space offering outdoor seating on the penthouse level of the hotel. Check-in will be conducted using tablet devices.
Andaz is Hyatt’s ‘lifestyle’ brand, focusing on local themes and cultural events. Hyatt said it plans to “collaborate with local artists, musicians, designers, and other cultural influencers” to create a series of ‘Andaz Salon’ events at the hotel.
“True to its destination, Andaz Tokyo will convey the well-tailored, refined sensibility of Japan as well as the vibrant, internationally eclectic spirit of its capital city,” said Larry Tchou, Hyatt’s group president for Asia.
Nine Andaz hotels are currently open, in the USA, UK, Netherlands and China. While Andaz Tokyo will mark the brand’s debut in Japan, it will become the ninth Hyatt-branded hotel in the country and the fourth in Tokyo.
