Travel agents have been advised to think about which cruise lines they work with in light of lowered commission levels.
Oliver Broad, chairman of AITO Agents told conference delegates at the weekend he was “sick” of 5% commission levels for travel agents and the added cost of printing the paperwork.
“Our stationery costs are going up with the paperwork involved in these bookings. Maybe we should charge £50 to accept a cruise booking from larger cruise companies?,” he said.
He acknowledged some cruise lines had cut commission to level out prices in the market but added Robert Broad Travel has never discounted cruise bookings.
