VietJet leases three more A320s
VietJet Air has signed an agreement to lease three more Airbus A320 aircraft.
Dublin-based aircraft leasing company AWAS will supply VietJet with the new single-aisle jets, all of which will come equipped with 180 seats in a single-class layout. The new A320s will also become the first in VietJet’s fleet to feature the ‘Sharklet’ wing-tip extensions, which are designed to reduce drag and improve fuel efficiency.
“The people of AWAS are very proud today to add VietJetAir as a new customer,” said Ray Sisson, president & CEO of AWAS. “This airline’s continued investment in expanding and modernising its fleet to offer a high-quality LCC model to their customers has met with strong success. We pride ourselves on being able to understand an airline’s unique business model and plans for growth. We worked with VietJetAir to offer aircraft at the right time, and with the right specifications to meet its needs, to help fuel further growth.”
VietJet Air currently operates 300 flights per week, all using new A320 aircraft. Currently it only operates one international route, Ho Chi Minh City-Bangkok, but services connecting Hanoi with the Thai capital are due to commence this summer.
The airline also said the three new jets would enable it to “expand into ASEAN and northern Asia to regional destinations such as Kuala Lumpur, Busan, Seoul, Singapore and Taipei”.
