With an eye on the Indian MICE market, Thailand held a road show under the Believe in Thailand banner in New Delhi and Mumbai, with as many as 28 sellers taking part in the event. The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau, which has a separate office in India, apart from Tourism Authority of Thailand, coordinated the road show, where the focus was on areas such as golf and spa facilities. Puripan Bunnag, Acting Director, Marketing and Industry TCEB, said another significant segment was Corporate Social Responsibility, where the Indian corporates were told of the many venues in Thailand where ‘green meetings’ can be organised, using less energy and paper. He revealed that in 2010 about 88,000 delegates from India went to Thailand for MICE purposes, and this year, the figure was expected to go up to 120,000 delegates. Some 20,000 delegates, including 3,000 from India, are expected at the Health Life meet in Thailand from May 6 to 8 this year. Anantara was present at the road show for the first time and Shannon Creado, Director, Sales and Marketing, said that this showed they were serious in tapping the MICE market for their properties. The response has been good, he said, adding that more exposure would be given to his company in India in days to come. Thanawat Pananan, Marketing Consultant at Thana Patong Beach Resort and Spa, Phuket, said that he had been promoting the mid and upmarket segment and also highlighting the new airport at Pattaya, which had made it easier to travel to Phuket from there.
