Star Cruises has unveiled plans for a brand new cruise ship, designed specifically for the Asian market.
The EUR707.2 million (US$957m) vessel will be 330 metres long with 18 decks, and will carry up to 4,500 passengers, making it the largest ship in Star’s fleet.
To be delivered in late 2016, the as-yet-unnamed ship will feature a range of facilities, including 33 food and beverage outlets, a theatre, meeting rooms and a range of leisure options, including a waterpark with slides. Designed especially for the Asian market, the ship will also offer more than 1,000m² of retail space, selling a range of luxury products.
“As the pioneer responsible for introducing cruising to Asia 20 years ago, Star Cruises best understands the ever changing taste and trend of Asian customers. The new ship will be tailor-made to satisfy the demands of the Asian market,” the company said in a statement.
Star Cruises has commissioned German shipbuilder Meyer Werft to construct the new vessel. The company previously built Star Cruises’ first new-build ship, the SuperStar Leo, and its sister ship, the SuperStar Virgo.
Part of Genting Hong Kong, which also operates the Resorts World Manila integrated resort, Star Cruises currently operates five ships. It has recently embarked on a series of Asian firsts, including new homeports in China and Malaysia, and a tie-up with China Duty Free to expand its onboard retail offerings.
