International arrivals to Laos saw double-digit growth in 2013.
The landlocked country welcomed 3.78 million visitors last year, 14.5% more than 2012 and exceeding its full-year target of 3.4m visitors.
The statistics, released by the Lao Ministry of Information, Culture & Tourism and reported by the Vientiane Times, revealed that visitors from neighbouring Thailand contributed the largest number of international visitors to Laos last year, with 1.9m arrivals, or 50% of the total.
Arrivals from the 10-member ASEAN region, including Thailand, jumped 89% to 3.04m, while visitation from Europe jumped 87% to 212,000.
The 2013 total also surpassed Laos’ arrival target for 2015, which had been placed at 3.75m visitors.
