International visitor arrivals to India continued to climb in September 2014.
According to the latest data from the country’s Ministry of Tourism, India welcomed 495,000 overseas visitors last month, up 9.2% compared to September 2013.
Bangladesh was India’s largest visitor source market during the month, accounting for 14.8% of total arrivals, followed by the US (11.9%), UK (8.3%), Sri Lanka (4.8%) and Japan (3.7%).
The country’s monthly tourism revenues increased 12.8% to INR88.1 billion (US$1.4bn).
For the first nine months of the year, India has now welcomed 5.18 million international visitors, marking a growth rate of 7.6% compared with the corresponding period in 2013. Revenues for the January-September 2014 period reached INR861.6bn, up 12.8% year-on-year.
