The First World Hotel in Malaysia’s Genting Highlands is officially the world’s largest hotel.
The 7,351-room property was recognised by Guinness World Records following a recent expansion project. The midscale hotel was also the world’s largest between 2006 and 2013, when it had 6,118 rooms. It was overtaken by The Palazzo hotel in Las Vegas, but following a MYR300 million (US$73m) extension, the First World Hotel has now returned to the top of the list.
“We are very pleased to once again receive this recognition. The hotel has received over 35.5 million guests over the nine years since its first record in 2006,” said Edward Holloway, senior vice president of Resorts World Genting.
“The endorsement by the world’s authority on this record-breaking achievement is icing on the cake, and more. It spells further excitement for the iconic hill resort even as it helps strengthen Malaysia on the international map for excellence in tourism and hospitality.”
The new extension at the First World Hotel includes rooms, entertainment facilities and F&B outlets.
