The UK government has banned all flights between Britain and Sharm el-Sheikh after revealing last weekend’s crash of a Russian Metrojet flight may possibly have been brought down by a bomb.
The government said it had immediately dispatched teams to review security procedures at Sharm el-Sheikh airport.
Speaking on Wednesday, Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond said: “We have concluded there was a significant possibility that that crash was caused by an explosive device on board the aircraft.”
The Metrojet A321 aircraft bound for St Petersburg crashed in the Sinai desert on Saturday, killing all 224 people on board.
The FCO has also advised against all but essential travel through Sharm el-Sheikh airport. It said there were about 20,000 British nationals currently living or holidaying in the popular Red Sea resort destination.
