Hong Kong’s Star Cruises will embark on its first homeport season in the Philippines this year when the SuperStar Virgo cruise liner starts sailing from Manila.
The 269-metre-long vessel will arrive in the Philippine capital in March, offering a series of six-day, five-night cruises to Laoag, in the north of Luzon island, the Taiwanese city of Kaohsiung and Hong Kong. The Philippine season will run from 19 March to 28 May 2017.
“Star Cruises was the first major cruise line to recruit Filipinos 23 years ago for our cruise ships and now we are pleased to be the first international cruise line to welcome Filipinos onboard Superstar Virgo as our guests from our homeport in Manila,” said Ang Moo Lim, president of Star Cruises.
“Worldwide, nearly 25 million people have enjoyed a cruise in 2016 and we are extending this opportunity for Filipinos to join their ranks from Manila – and at an affordable price.”
Benito C. Bengzon Jr, under-secretary for the Phillipine Department of Tourism, welcomed the decision to base a cruise ship in his country. “The Philippine Department of Tourism extends its warmest congratulations to Star Cruises as it launches its latest programme. We are confident that inclusion of the Philippines in the itinerary of SuperStar Virgo will help strengthen the country’s position as a competitive cruise destination in the region,” he stated.
In a bid to attract Filipino families, Star Cruises is offering early bird discounts, school holiday promotions, and the ability for up to four people to share a room.
Prior to its Phillipine season from January to March 2017, SuperStar Virgo is undertaking a brand new Vietnam season with a series of cruises to Danang, Nha Trang, Ho Chi Minh City and Halong Bay.
