Cross-cultural customer service specialists, TravConsult, have just launched their second interactive educational blog for the tourism industry. This new blog, which can be found at www.travconsultindia.blogspot.com, was developed to help tourism organisations, businesses, tourism professionals and academics globally to better understand tourists and travellers from India.
Trevor Lee, TravConsult’s Managing Director says, “India has a rapidly emerging and expanding market of middle class and affluent consumers whose disposable income is increasing. They are educated, the majority speak English and they want to travel, overseas. Success with this tourist market, however, will depend largely on how well destinations, their tourism businesses and communities understand the Indian traveller.”
Lee continues advising, “The biggest mistake a destination can make is assuming that all Indian tourists are the same. There are 28 states and 7 union territories which make up India. And each one of these has their own culture, cuisine, fashion and official language. It makes sense then that as travellers, they will have unique behavioural characteristics, service expectations and needs which the tourism industry must be well prepared for. And our India blog points them in the right direction towards gaining this important knowledge and information.”
Aiming to be a one-stop information site on Indian travellers, TravConsult’s India blog includes the latest tourism, hospitality and business news from India, general news from India, links to useful websites from around the world on the Indian tourism market and Indian tourists and how to conduct business in India. There are interactive language tools and useful links for people who would like to learn some words & expressions in Hindi as well as a calendar of upcoming events around the world that focus on tourism and trade from India. Recommended reading, viewing and listening materials on India are on the blog in addition to a list of useful links to information on vegetarian and Jain cuisine in India. Seven day weather forecasts for Delhi and several other major cities are also included. The blog is totally free and is being updated 24/7.
Lee says, “Indian tourists are being sought after by destinations around the world. Countries such as Switzerland, Japan, Ethiopia, Australia, France, Canada, Malaysia, Singapore, Korea, Dubai and the UK are all working hard to attract affluent Indian travellers. Understanding the various cultural backgrounds, unique dietary requirements, high service needs and expectations of Indian travellers will be the key to successfully gaining and increasing market share.”
TravConsult’s India blog has been developed utilising the same colourful, vibrant and interactive format as their China blog, which has succeeded in engaging visitors from around the world. Future planned blogs by TravConsult include Japan and Korea.
