Hopes fade in Christchurch as death toll passes 100

Hopes of find any more survivors in the earthquake-hit city of Christchurch are fading, as the official death toll climbed to 113. No further survivors were found overnight, and a further 228 people are still missing in the New Zealand city, three days after the 6.3-magnitude quake struck.
Channel NewsAsia reported the country’s Prime Minister, John Key, as saying that rescuers “need a bit a bit of luck” to find more survivors among the rubble. Japan said at least 26 of its citizens were missing, while 20 Chinese students are still unaccounted for. Twelve Filipinos are also missing.
