Major stakeholders from Abu Dhabi’s tourism industry will travel to Shanghai this week to muster up more MICE business from the Chinese market.
This will be the first Abu Dhabi delegation ever to attend the Incentive Travel & Conventions, Meetings, China exhibition.
Led by the Abu Dhabi Convention Bureau, the delegation includes Yas Island, the signature Yas Viceroy Abu Dhabi hotel, Yas Marina Circuit, the Ovation Arabia Destination Management Company, Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Centre, and Ferrari World Abu Dhabi.
The Abu Dhabi Convention Bureau has been instrumental in growing the MICE sector, having already secured big business from the East. Earlier this month, Abu Dhabi hosted the 2014 NU SKIN Success Trip, which welcomed more than 14,500 Chinese cosmetics distributors to the UAE as part of an 11-day programme.
Such mega events bring unparalleled value to the travel industry, after 6,000 2014 NU SKIN delegates stayed in 16 Abu Dhabi hotels delivering some 12,500 room nights this month.
Mohammed Al Dhaheri, strategy & policy director at Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi), said; “The Chinese MICE industry is just like the country’s economy – it is emerging, dynamic and fast growing. It is worth an estimated USD150 billion and is growing annually at 20% and so offers a wealth of opportunity.”
China is currently Abu Dhabi’s third largest international source market for hotel guests with improved air access playing a key role in delivery.
