Dubai recently received the title of ‘World Festival and Event City’ from the International Festivals and Events Association (IFEA).
HE Helal Saeed Almarri, director general of DTCM said: “Festivals and events in Dubai form not only a crucial part of the current culture and are a vital part of the emirate’s future growth. Residents and tourists have a lot to look forward to as we continue to strengthen existing successful events and festivals, as well as focus on attracting and encouraging a number of new major events.”
Festivals and events have been identified as one of the three key pillars alongside family and business tourism. These factors will enable the emirate’s tourism objective of attracting 20 million annual visitors to Dubai by 2020, as announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid AI Maktoum, vice-president and prime minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
In the past year, the emirate has seen the introduction of numerous events, festivals and city-wide celebrations including Dubai Food Festival, Dubai Motor Festival, Dubai Food Carnival, Blended, RedFestDXB and Dubai Music Week.
