Holiday Inn Express has signed its first property in Phuket, as part of its major expansion plan Asia. The 280-room hotel, which also becomes the first Holiday Inn Express in a beach location, will be developed in the resort town Patong, 100 metres from the beach. Holiday Inn Express Phuket Patong Beach Central is expected to open by early 2013.
Jan Smits, Chief Executive for Asia, Middle East and Africa (AMEA), said; “The Holiday Inn Express brand meets the demand for an international standard hotel that offers fuss-free comfort, convenience and value, with no compromise on location. This proposition resonates well with our owner partners and the brand is growing strongly across the region, with a pipeline of 47 hotels in Asia Pacific alone. Phuket remains a popular international tourist destination; the well-established Holiday Inn Express will appeal to visitors and quickly distinguish itself as the accommodation of choice.”
Globally, there are currently 2,088 Holiday Inn Express hotels located across major cities. In Asia Pacific, the brand is expanding rapidly from its current 30 hotels and will open new hotels in Singapore, India and Indonesia within the next few years. Holiday Inn Express Phuket Patong Beach Central is the fourth development for the brand in Thailand. The first Holiday Inn Express for the country, also the first in Southeast Asia, will open at the end of the year in Bangkok. Two other hotels currently in development are located in central Bangkok and in Pattaya.
