Chengdu Airport has selected Unisys Corporation to supply its core operational systems. The deal will see Unisys provide the Airport Operational Database (AODB) and the Flight Information Management system, which are integrated into the airport’s Air Traffic Control system.
The new systems are intended to support the expansion and modernisation of Chengdu Airport, including work on the airport’s new Terminal 2. The new terminal will provide additional capacity for China’s sixth busiest airport, with annual passenger volumes expected to grow from 26 million in 2010 to 53 million by 2015.
Unisys will take the lead role in the interface design, testing and commissioning of the overall integration of various airport systems to be used in the new terminal. The company will also oversee the trial of systems at the new terminal and provide maintenance for five years after the system has gone live and been accepted, planned for 2012.
“The expansion of Chengdu Airport is a reflection of the health of China’s aviation industry overall,” said Sury Chavali, Head of the Aviation Practice for Unisys Asia Pacific. “Last year China became the world’s second largest economy. Such growth helps attract both international business travellers, and increases demand from domestic leisure travellers. Airports such as Chengdu will rely on integrated IT systems to offer travellers an enjoyable and efficient experience.”
