A new niche market is opening up in the Japanese hotel industry, hotels for the dead. With an aging population, Japan has a death rate of 1 in 100, which is equal to that of Cote D’Ivoire and Rwanda. Families must often wait three to four days to cremate relatives and they must often keep the dead at home during this time. Now hotels with refrigerated coffins in the rooms are popping up to meet demand. Lastel Hotel in Yokohama is one such place with 18 rooms and refrigerated coffins that automatically deliver the corpse to the room when families come to visit, reports the International Business Times.
