Austrian Airlines has announced it is set to improve its flight network throughout the winter 2010/11 season. From 31 October, the airline will increase the number of ‘waves’ per day from six to seven to offer better connection times. A wave, or traffic hub, is a time window when arrivals and departures are harmonised well to give passengers the highest number of connection opportunities. The number of connections will rise by 300 a week particularly between Western and Eastern Europe and the flexibility will allow for further expansion of the flight schedule. “Our new, active market strategy is taking effect,” said Austrian Airlines Executives Andreas Bierwirth and Peter Malanik. “We are using focused measures to improve our product range, which is enabling us to win back both customers and market share.” The airline has already deployed larger aircraft and increased flights on routes with high passenger volume.
