British Airways and Iberia are to enter a codeshare agreement with airberlin, the German airline’s CEO said earlier this week. Speaking at the carrier’s AGM in London, Joachim Hunold, CEO of airberlin said the airline was close to signing a contract with BA and Iberia, following its codeshare deal with American Airlines. It follows a string of agreements for the German carrier since it joined the oneworld alliance. “International networking offers a huge opportunity for growth. Therefore, we have already concluded codeshare agreements with American Airlines, Finnair and S7,” said Hunold. “The contracts with Iberia and British Airways will follow shortly.” British Airways has not confirmed the codeshare agreement. “We sponsored airberlin to join oneworld which we announced in July last year,” a spokesperson told Travel Daily. “We have since said that we are in talks with them about a codesharing relationship.”
