Mobile travel services have single-handedly ‘consumerised’ business travel, according to the results of a Sabre survey. According to the results, 63% of corporate travellers want to receive offers from local businesses in the destination they are in and 47% use their phone daily to view advertisements. In addition, 72% wanted to view hotels on a map through their phone, 43% used their phone as navigation and 71% want a driving direction service. “One of the biggest trends we see in the survey data is travellers’ desire for local business information and offerings based on their location via their smartphone or tablet,” said Chris Kroeger, senior vice president of Sabre Travel Network. “Travellers will look for this information from suppliers, travel management companies and technology resources such as online booking tools like GetThere. Smart and savvy TMCs will use technology as a way to fill this need and improve customer support and solidify customer loyalty”. The study also showed that corporate travellers want to book travel on their phone more often and predicted that travel documents will become more mobile in the future. “Tomorrow’s business travellers will move from physical passports, wallets and credit cards and will expect their mobile device to fill those needs as continued advancements in mobile payment, commerce and banking make it easier to electronically transact via mobile devices,” said Kroeger.
