US carriers post strong trans-Atlantic load factors

American Airlines and Delta Air Lines both posted trans-Atlantic load factors in excess of 80 percent September 2011. Delta posted very strong load factors of 87.9 percent on routes to Europe last month – down 0.2 percentage points compared to September 2010. The Atlanta-based carrier’s passenger traffic actually slumped 7.6 percent year-on-year, but this was in line with a 7.5 percent cut in capacity, allowing load factors to remain high.
American Airlines achieved trans-Atlantic load factors of 82.9 percent in September 2011 – down 1.5 points. The carrier’s passenger traffic actually increased 0.5 percent on a capacity expansion of 2.4 percent.
