Qantas flights will resume this afternoon, after the airline took the unprecedented to decision to ground its entire fleet on Saturday. The Australian government has stepped in to intervene in a row between the airline and three labour unions, which had resulted in Qantas declaring a “lock-out” of employees. This decision forced it to ground all mainline aircraft, resulting in the cancellation of 447 flights on Saturday and Sunday.
Qantas will now undertake up to 21 days of negotiations with the Australian Licenced Engineers Union (ALAEA), the Transport Workers Union (TWU), the Australian & International Pilots Union (AIPA), during which time no strikes or other disruptive activity can take place.
