Holidaymakers in Wales are to gain more connections into Germany next year after Lufthansa announced new flights from Cardiff.
The German airline will launch summer weekend services from Cardiff to Dusseldorf from 4 May 2013. It will also allow passengers to connect onto Lufthansa’s network out of the city.
First Minister Carwyn Jones said the new route will improve the airport’s competitive position as its Cardiff Airport Taskforce looks to increase use of the airport.
“The development of new routes like this is key to attracting new passengers through Cardiff and assisting the Airport to realise its potential as a modern, well-connected, successful business at the heart of Wales’ national infrastructure,” he explained.
Christian Schindler, general manager UK & Ireland at Lufthansa added: “As well as providing a direct service to Germany, we have ensured that the flight times provide excellent connections to many other destinations – particularly across Europe. Lufthansa offers minimum onward connection times through our Dusseldorf mini hub from just 35 minutes, making it a real and attractive alternative to other major hubs.”
