The Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC) sold 5.02 lakh e-tickets in a single day on 1 March 2013.
The highest sales of 4.96 e-tickets was achieved on 7 July 2012. IRCTC is in its endeavour to address the problem of slow speed, has recently invested INR 3.5 crore in enhancing the concurrent connection to its Firewall from around 10 lakh to more than 80 lakh. IRCTC is also investing in enhancing/augmenting the software licence and storage area network.
With all the upgradation, IRCTC hopes to achieve around 40-45% increase in the booking during tatkal hours. After the upgradation, the tatkal bookings are likely to go up to 60,000 to 63,000 tickets per hour.
