Turkish finalises major Boeing order
Turkish Airlines has finalised a major order with Boeing that will see it add at least 70 more aircraft to its fleet.
The carrier has placed firm orders for 20 B737-800 aircraft, as well as 50 of the new fuel-efficient B737 MAX. These comprise 40 B737 MAX 8s and 10 larger B737 MAX 9s. The total deal is valued at US$6.9 billion at list prices, and with options for an additional 25 B737 MAX 8s, it is the largest Boeing order in Turkish Airlines’ history.
“We are delighted to finalise the order, which will considerably expand our fleet and contribute to our continued growth,” said Temel Kotil, President & CEO of Turkish Airlines. “Turkish Airlines is a global airline, serving the most countries worldwide and we are building the strongest network in the world. Our long-standing partnership with Boeing is one of the key factors behind the success of Turkish Airlines.”
Europe’s fourth biggest airline, Turkish is currently in the process of a major expansion programme. Along with the B737s, it also has outstanding orders for 15 B777s and more than 70 Airbus jets, and eventually expects to expand its fleet size to more than 300 aircraft.
For Boeing, this latest deal takes its order book for the new B737 MAX aircraft to 1,285, while it still has more than 3,100 unfilled orders for the standard B737.
