SEPANG, 10 May 2010 - Exorbitant baggage fees will be a thing of the past, as guests can now enjoy greater savings when they take advantage of AirAsia’s new and improved ‘Pre-booked Baggage Supersize Fees’.
The new and improved, lower ‘Pre-booked Baggage Supersize’ fees — aspire to eliminate the dominant woe in air travel: high baggage fees — present guests with savings up to 50 percent when they ‘Supersize’ their baggage online. Guests are invited to log on to AirAsia’s website at www.airasia.com to know more about the airline’s ‘Pre-booked Baggage Supersize Fees’. For guests who have booked flights online but have not opted for baggage’ Supersize’, they can also visit the website, go to the ‘Manage My Booking’ option and proceed to purchase their desired baggage weight at a discount.
According to air travel data, the weight range of check-in luggage is usually from 20 to 25 kg, and travelers spend substantial amounts through high baggage fees or on excess baggage fees when they exceed the baggage allowance limit. Understanding the current trend, AirAsia took the step in revamping its baggage fee structure to offer more affordable rates to guests in the higher weight categories of 20kg to 30kg.
AirAsia Head of Ancillary Income, Rafizah Amran said “Last year, 660,000 people paid RM91 million for excess baggage. At the end of their trip, guests are often faced with problems of having baggage with excessive weight and exorbitant baggage fees, which is not a very happy ending to the journey. By utilizing our ‘Supersize’ baggage option online, guests can enjoy great savings up to 50 percent compared to paying excess baggage fees at the counter.”
At most airports, the average charge for excess baggage is up to RM20 per kg. To illustrate the difference, AirAsia’s 20kg ‘Supersize’ option is offered at a low price of RM30 online. For non-‘Supersize’, a baggage of 20kg (15kg allowance + 5kg excess) will incur the cost of RM30 for the first 15kg and up to RM20 for each subsequent kg at the counter. The result — a whopping total of RM130 at the counter compared to a mere RM30 online pre-book for the same baggage weight of 20kg!
