International arrivals increase in June

International tourist arrivals to India increased 8.2% in June 2010, compared to the same period last year, the Ministry of Tourism has announced. The country welcomed 3.70 lakh arrivals last month, up from 3.42 lakh in June 2009. The rate of growth is lower than May 2010’s 15.5% year-on-year increase, but significantly greater than the 0.2% gain in June 2009, compared to the same month in 2008. Foreign exchange earnings from tourism hit INR4,751 crore last month, 25.0% higher than the INR3,801 crore achieved in June 2009. For the first six months of 2010, international arrivals increased 10.8% to 26.32 lakh, while tourism earnings climbed 27.1% to INR31,373 crore.
