The Indian and Chinese markets are a top priority for Malaysian Airlines’ (MAS) current expansion plans. India and Malaysia have close cultural ties and more than 600,000 Indian nationals travelled to the country last year. The carrier will deploy its fleet of 737-800s with Boeing’s new Sky Interior along these five to six hour flight routes. Speaking to the New Straits Times the airline’s Managing Director and CEO Tengku Datuk Azmil Zahruddin said the company will resist temptation to become a low cost carrier despite intense competition in the region.
