One of India’s biggest travel events TTF&OTM was inaugurated on Friday at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, NSE Complex, Goregaon in the presence of a large number of dignitaries and officials from the travel and hospitality industry from all over India and abroad.
As tourism boards and private operators around the world look for a slice of the burgeoning outbound market, this year saw more foreign dignitaries at the event than ever before.
A total of 34 countries were represented at this year’s conference, five more than in 2010, while the domestic sector also witnessed wider representation with participation from 26 states, up from 21 last year.
While the domestic market remains the backbone of the Indian travel industry, the outbound market is growing fast at an estimated rate of 12-13% yoy.
The importance of the sector and the strong growth is reflected in the healthy 27% increase in the number of participants at TTF&OTM Mumbai as compared to last year.
This is also a clear indicator that the Indian tourism industry is on a path of steady growth.
Most of the destinations, international as well as domestic, made an aggressive pitch for the Indian Tourist with attractive displays and eye-catching exhibits showcasing their attractions. Culture, nature, adventure, cuisine, history, antiquities, shopping, events etc. were all showcased at the event.
Besides doing up their stalls attractively, participants are also organised marketing and cultural presentations to add value to their participation, and give visitors a feel for their destinations.
