Heathrow Airport has announced it is to provide funding for a resident campaign that backs the running of the airport.
Its announcement comes after a survey of 6,000 residents by Populus in Hounslow, Richmond, Hillingdon, Windsor and Spelthorne found 60% had a positive feeling towards the airport while only 6% felt negatively.
However less than half backed any expansion at the airport (46%) although nearest areas Feltham and Heston showed a higher level of support (51%) despite being most affected by airport noise.
Heathrow is now in early stages of a new community campaign to create awareness around those that support the airport.
“This research shows that most local residents back Heathrow. Anti-Heathrow campaigners claim that everyone living near Heathrow is opposed to the airport, but that simply isn’t true,” said the airport’s director of corporate affairs Clare Harbord.
