Sharjah unveils Tourist Guides Training course

The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) in cooperation with University of Sharjah announced the 9th batch of Professional Tourist Guides Course.
This is part of the Authority’s efforts to bolster the tourism sector and improve quality of professional services and facilities offered to tourists.
The 11-day licensing course will be held from 16-27 June and includes both theory and practical lessons by the University of Sharjah faculty.
HE Khalid Jasim A Midfa, director general, Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority underscored the importance of the SCTDA initiative aimed at encouraging excellence and training among tourism industry partners.
Al Midfa said, “Sharjah has been selected as the Capital of Islamic Culture for 2014, as declared by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. The celebrations are expected to attract large numbers of international tourists and visitors, demanding greater responsibility by tourism industry partners to highlight and present the emirate’s image in right perspective.”
The professional training and licensing tourist guides course includes lessons and lectures on the various facets of Sharjah’s history, culture, architecture, archaeology and the economy. Field visits to a number of museums, tourist sites and archaeological sites and backgrounders on future tourism projects, such as the Heart of Sharjah and Heritage Village in Al Khan area etc form part of the course.
