AirAsia has taken delivery of a new A320 – the 8,000th aircraft delivered by Airbus.
The new single-aisle jet, which comes equipped in an all-economy configuration with 180 seats, arrived at Jakarta’s Soekharno-Hatta International Airport this week, where it will be operated by AirAsia Indonesia.
“This is a very special moment for all of us,” said Tony Fernandes, AirAsia’s group CEO. “We are extremely proud to have the 8,000th Airbus as a member of our fleet.
“The excellent fuel efficiency and economics of Airbus aircraft are key contributors to AirAsia’s success – we are confident that these modern aircraft will enable us to continue our ambitious growth plans.”
Airbus’ president & CEO, Fabrice Brégier, said it was “particularly fitting” that the 8,000th aircraft was delivered to AirAsia. “In an increasingly challenging and diverse worldwide economic context, we are more than ever focused on delivering real value to our customers.
We will achieve this by continuing to innovate, together with our customers, in all fields of the business to stay ahead of the game and offer the most efficient products and services,” he said.
The new A320 is one of 475 aircraft ordered by AirAsia, comprising 211 A320s and 264 A320neos. In addition, AirAsia X has ordered 26 A330-300s and 10 A350 XWBs. Currently, AirAsia has a fleet of 141 Airbus aircraft.
