Air services in India are likely to be disrupted from today (Wednesday 27April), with approximately 800 pilots threatening to go on strike. The pilots, belonging to the former Indian Airlines, now merged with Air India, are demanding parity in pay and benefits with their colleagues from the national carrier. The strike threat was ordered by the Indian Commercial Pilots Association, which mostly represents Indian Airlines pilots. The country’s Civil Aviation Minister, Vayalar Ravi has set up a three member panel to deal with the issue.
