In a bid to focus on professionalism in the industry, the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority is looking to develop skills and professional excellence through an orientation program. The programme is aptly titled ‘Sharjah My Destination.’
Several hotel employees, around 46 in total participated in the two-day program. This is the first of its kind this year and included presentations by industry experts, visits and field trips to Sharjah’s museums, art and cultural centres and tourist attractions.
SCTDA director general HE Khalid Jasim Al Midfa said: “The importance and role of tourism industry employees in promoting a destination is growing by the day. They are direct contacts with tourists and can enrich visitors’ knowledge and understanding. We have witnessed positive growth registered by the sector in recent times attracting more than 1.9 million visitors last year.”
The two-day program began with a tour of Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization followed by a walking tour of the Heart of Sharjah and Heritage and Arts Area.
