The Global Himalayan Expedition (GHE) has announced its second edition of the journey as well as the
launch of its website www.ghe.co.in.
This year, the team participating in the expedition will travel from Delhi to Leh, Ladakh under the objective of Clean Himalayan Journey. The expedition covering 1,300 km starting from Delhi and passing through Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu Kashmir to reach Leh, will be traversed on an Electric Powered Vehicle (EV) from 10-21 August 2014.
Promoting sustainable tourism, GHE has joined hands with the Ladakh Renewable Energy Development Agency (LREDA) for identification of villages across remote parts of Ladakh, where the expedition team will be setting up DC Solar Microgrids to provide basic lighting and charging facilities to the local community.
“These areas are untapped markets for solar products and for sustainable energy resources. LREDA and GHE will identify territories where micro grids could operate and help set up electricity infrastructure while encouraging the community on the use of solar energy access for additional income generation activites,” said Paras Loomba, founder of Global Himalayan Expedition.
