Two of Etihad’s partner airlines, Jet Airways and Alitalia, have entered into a new codesharing pact for flights connecting India and Italy, via Abu Dhabi.
Jet Airways, which is 24% owned by Etihad, has started placing its ‘9W’ code on Alitalia’s flights from Abu Dhabi to Rome, and then onwards from the Italian capital to Bologna, Florence, Naples, Turin, Venice and Verona.
In return, Alitalia, which is currently closing a deal that will see it divest a 49% stake to Etihad, will place its ‘AZ’ code on Jet’s flights between Abu Dhabi and Delhi, Mumbai and Kochi. It will also codeshare on the Indian carrier’s domestic routes from Mumbai and Delhi to Amritsar, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata and Udaipur.
Members of the two airlines’ frequent flyer programmes will be able to earn and redeem miles on all the codeshare flights.
“India and Italy share strong ties, ranging across leisure, business tourism and commercial trade. Thanks to the expanded codeshare agreement we are able to offer our guests a wider access, unmatched connectivity and seamless travel to Italy’s top destinations,” said Gaurang Shetty, Jet’s senior vice president of commercial.
“The agreement with Alitalia is a further step in Jet Airways’ strategy of growing on the global marketplace,” he added.
Jet Airways and Alitalia both also codeshare with Etihad on routes to and from Abu Dhabi.
