Twentieth Century Fox has agreed to develop a new theme park in South Korea.
The US movie-maker has penned an agreement with Village Roadshow Theme Parks and the government of Korea’s Gyeongsangnam-do province to create a major new theme park and resort complex, covering more than 30 hectares.
Twentieth Century Fox World Korea will be located in the Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone, in the southeast of Korea. According to the initial plans, the studio-style theme park will form part of a larger resort complex covering more than 280 hectares, and will feature “some of Fox’s most recognised and beloved film and television brands”.
“We are… moving forward with plans for our global theme park project with Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products to develop a world-leading theme park,” said Hong Joon-pyo, governor of Gyeongsangnam-do province.
“We will make every effort to successfully develop this global theme park through close cooperation with Fox and Village Roadshow. Once the theme park is completed, we expect more than 10 million foreign and local tourists will visit and the local economy will be boosted by creating 30,000 jobs,” he added.
“Korea provides a unique opportunity for an international theme park destination that will be incredibly attractive to both a thriving domestic consumer as well as a quickly growing tourist market from China, Japan and across Asia,” said Jeffrey Godsick, president of Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products.
The theme park will feature zones based on key Twentieth Century Fox movies, including Alien, Ice Age and Planet of the Apes.
Fox recently announced its first ever theme park, Twentieth Century Fox World, which is set to open in Malaysia in 2016.
