China’s low cost carrier, Spring Airlines, has opened a new route between Wuhan and Osaka, halving journey times for travellers and raising Wuhan’s status on the global aviation network.
The route, linking Hubei province with the western Japanese city, will be served by a 180-seat Airbus A320 aircraft every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday. The new service is expected to cut journey times from six hours, to just three hours.
Launched Friday 18 June, the service will help Wuhan become an international aviation hub, bridging it with northeast Asia, according to Zhu Xueqing, deputy general manager of Hubei Airports Group Company.
State media also reports that Spring Airlines is planning a direct flight linking Chongqing in southwest China to Osaka.
