Abacus International is embarking on the “most exciting new roll-out of products in [its] history”, the company has revealed.
On the first day of the travel technology company’s biennial Abacus International Conference (AIC), which is taking place this week on the futuristic Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, chief marketing officer Martin Symes said his company is rolling out a series of new products to meet the needs of its Asia Pacific clients.
“We’re doing some really cool new stuff that’s responding to the challenges our customers are facing in the marketplace,” Symes told Travel Daily on the opening day of the conference. These innovations will include a brand new content-based product, which will be officially unveiled on Wednesday, plus a new payment solution.
When asked whether the new solutions are anticipating or responding to market trends, Symes said it was doing a little of both.
“We’re responding as quickly as we can to the changes with the technology that’s available to us,” he said. “We’re building [solutions] ourselves, we’re partnering with the experts in their fields and leveraging as much as we can from the global developments that Sabre are driving.
And it is this regional strength of Abacus in Asia Pacific, paired with the global coverage of its partner Sabre, which Abacus believes gives it an advantage.
“We get the best of global and the best of local,” said Symes.
And the company believes it will be able to further press home this advantage with its new innovations.
“Broadly, the offerings of the core GDS are similar. But where we’ve really focused is on the stuff around the core GDS. And I think we’ve got a clear leadership position in some of these areas, like the mid- to back-office systems, automation and robotic ticketing,” Symes said. “With some of the other initiatives we’re launching now we’ll hopefully move one further step ahead.”
Abacus will be showcasing 10 of its products to approximately 500 of its key clients this week, including point-of-sale solutions, new content and corporate traveller tools.
Abacus’ latest product offering will be revealed on the Travel Daily Media website on Wednesday 15 October 2014.
