The assurance came from India’s Tourism Secretary, Dr Christy Leon Fernandez who briefed the press on Hyderabad’s plans when it hosts PATA Travel Mart 2008.
“We have been assured by the state government of Hyderabad that there wont be a dearth of hotel rooms. By early next year, everything should be in place,” he said.
The assurance comes as India faces a capacity crunch that far exceeds bourgeoning demand. Hotel room rates in India are notoriously high and would be a concern, especially for delegates coming from less developed regions.
He also said that Hyderabad airport would be ready ahead of its March 2008 schedule.’
“We will showcase not only Hyderabad during the Mart but also the surrounding state,” he said.
He also cited the campaign to educate people on how to handle the growing inflow of foreign tourists.
