Taiwan’s Ambassador Hotels & Restaurants has unveiled plans for its second amba hotel.
Scheduled to open in the second quarter of 2015, the amba Taipei Zhongshan will mark a modern conversion of a 1970s office building on the Taiwanese capital’s Zhongshan North Road.
Once open, amba Taipei Zhongshan will feature 90 contemporary rooms, a restaurant, a music and dessert bar, plus communal space on each floor and “locally-inspired fun elements” throughout the hotel. Guests will also be offered free Wi-Fi.
The hotel’s exterior will also be striking, with a giant pop art mural on the southern façade and green-painted panels and a ‘living wall’ on the eastern side. This forms part of the hotel’s environmental focus, which also includes the use of ‘Low-E’ glass to save energy.
“Through careful facade and interior design choices and highly-efficient mechanical systems, we are helping to conserve environmental resources and at the same time expect to achieve energy savings of around 15% at the new amba Taipei Zhongshan,” said Ying-Chao Kuo, principal architect of Bioarchitecture Formosana, which is handling the conversion..
amba Taipei Zhongshan will be the second hotel in the amba collection, following amba Taipei Ximending, which opened in 2012. A third property, amba Taipei Songshan, is scheduled to open at the top of Taipei’s new Songshan Railway Station complex in late 2015. Then in 2016 amba Kenting will become the brand’s first resort.
Ambassador says its amba hotel brand is targeted at “savvy urban travellers”, with hotels incorporating “design creativity, responsible consumption and generous service offerings”.
