P&O Cruises Australia has created a new MICE division as it aims to bring the conference industry to the seas.
Officially launched today at the AIME trade show in Melbourne, the new P&O Conferences division has been set up to manage an increase in the company’s corporate bookings.
The drive comes as P&O prepares to expand its Australian fleet from three to five ships, with the addition of Pacific Aria and Pacific Eden in November 2015.
P&O’s director of sales, Ryan Taibel, said the fleet expansion would allow the company to host more onboard meetings, with both ships featuring new meeting rooms.
“The arrival of Pacific Eden and Pacific Aria also expands our itinerary offerings with 40% of our cruises sailing for two to five nights – perfect for corporate meetings,” Taibel said.
He added that the expanded fleet would also enable the P&O to offer cruises from Australian ports including Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide, Fremantle and Cairns, as well as Singapore and Auckland.
P&O Conferences is targeting 12,000 meeting delegates in 2016, with meetings of 100-200 delegates its main target.
“Cruising in Australia is booming and in the same way that we have established ourselves as a leading holiday option for travellers, we want cruising to be high on the consideration list for the nation’s meeting organisers,” Taibel said.
P&O has also now launched a dedicated conference brochure highlighting its onboard meeting facilities, and created a new range of conference packages including beverages and internet options.
