Manchester has been named the most thrill-seeking city in the UK, according to new research.
A survey carried out on the behalf of Florida4Less found that Mancunians have a penchant for the more extreme activities in life. On average, one in five (21%) of Mancunians have taken part in a thrill-seeking activity. A quarter (25%) of these rugged northerners have been mountain climbing while more than one in ten (13%) have been brave enough to bungee jump and 82% have rode a rollercoaster.
Parachuting, hang gliding, surfing and snowboarding were among the thrill-seeking sports included in the study. London came a close second with an average of 19.8% taking part in one or more of these activities and Leeds came third with 18.8%.
But Leeds’ northern neighbour Sheffield came bottom of the list with an average of 15.9%. However, the steel city came up tops for roller coaster enthusiasts, with 84% having a penchant for white-knuckle rides.
It seems that the majority of adrenaline junkies can be found in the north, as this is where three of the top five thrill-seeking locations were based.
