Royal Caribbean International has agreed to sell its Legend of the Seas cruise ship to Thomson Cruises, which forms part of the TUI Group.
The 1,832-passenger vessel, which formed part of Royal Caribbean’s Vision Class, will be transferred to UK-based Thomson in 2017, and renamed TUI Discovery 2.
It will become the sister ship to the soon-to-be-launched TUI Discovery and will increase Thomson’s fleet to six vessels.
“It’s an exciting time at Thomson Cruises as we bring to life our modernisation and transformation strategy to benefit UK cruise customers. This investment is another sign of our cruise business being a focus for driving growth in TUI UK and the wider TUI Group,” said Helen Caron, managing director of Thomson Cruises.
Legends of the Seas features 915 cabins, nearly 40% of which have balconies, plus multiple F&B outlets, an outdoor poolside movie screen, a rock-climbing wall, mini-golf course and an indoor swimming pool and spa.
The ship was originally launched in 1994 and is one of the most well-travelled ships in the Royal Caribbean fleet, having been based in Asia, Australia, Alaska, the Caribbean, Baltic, Mediterranean and the Middle East during its 22-year career at sea.
